/ bi folding

Unison engineered and manufactured this solid Black Walnut bi-folding door system for a primary residence in Vancouver, designed by architect Allan Peters.

Australian Eclipse hardware was chosen for this application, using their most robust E4 series to support the significant scale of this opening. Due to the tall door height, Unison extended and recessed the upper flush-bolts to allow for a clear wood surface and ease of operation.

A 5-part Stain and Lacquer System brought out a rich furniture-quality finish with exterior durability.

Technical Challenge:

  • Bifolding Unit up to 10' high - 200sq.ft opening.
  • Engineered Door Core wrapped with solid 5/8" Blackwalnut skins - uniform colour, book-matched appearance.

Custom Solution:

  • Eclipse hardware was seamlessly combined with Unison's wood and glass components to provide clean visual aesthetic, smooth operation, and a lifetime of performance
  • Unison worked with lumber suppliers to select material that originated from the same forest stand, was processed in one run at a single mill in Indianna. This ensured precise color matching that is a particular issue when working in Black Walnut.
